Sometimes bank payments don’t land where they’re supposed to. When that happens, we can help trace the funds — but there are some important timelines and conditions to know before you request a trace.

What is a bank trace?

A bank trace is a formal request made to the receiving financial institution to confirm whether a payment was deposited into the correct account. It’s used to track down where a payment ended up, especially when something seems off.


đź•’ When can I request a trace?

You’ll need to wait 10 full business days from the date the payment was submitted before we can start a trace. This gives the banks time to fully process the transfer.

If 10 business days have passed and you still don’t see the funds, we can begin the trace.


đź“… How long does it take?

Once we initiate the trace, it can take 10 business days or more for the receiving bank to investigate and respond.

Unfortunately, we can’t speed this up — it depends on the response time of the receiving bank.


📆 How far back can I trace a transaction?

We can trace transactions up to one year from the original payment date. If it’s been longer than that, the bank won’t be able to process the trace.


🔍 What happens during a trace?

Here’s what the bank will do:

  1. Check the EFT file: They’ll compare the name and account number we submitted to the name and account number on file at their institution.

  2. Confirm the result: If the details match, they’ll confirm the exact date the funds were deposited.

  3. Mismatch? If the name doesn’t match the account, the funds might be returned — but only if they’re still available.

❗Note: If the funds were deposited into an account that’s now empty or closed, there’s a chance they can’t be recovered.


đź’¸ Is there a cost?

Yes — a $50 CAD charge will be applied for all trace requests. Should the result of the trace find a clarical error from the service providers, you will be refunded the charge.

To avoid unnecessary delays and charges:

  • Double-check your banking info before submitting.

  • Wait the full 10 business days before asking us to trace.
