Why We Update Your Legal Name After ID Verification

To keep your investment records accurate, we automatically update your legal name using the ID you submit during verification.

What’s happening?

Before you invest in any real estate opportunity on addy, you’ll go through an ID verification process. This is a standard compliance step that helps us keep things secure, legal, and fair for everyone.

As part of that process, we automatically update your account’s legal name using the name pulled directly from the ID document you upload (e.g., passport, driver's license).

This name will:

  • Appear on all your investment records

  • Be used in legal agreements for any securities you purchase

  • Show up on any tax documents we generate for you (like T5 or T5013 slips)

Why do we do this?

We’re a registered Exempt Market Dealer, which means we follow strict rules to make sure all investments are properly recorded and compliant with Canadian securities regulations. Using your verified legal name ensures:

✅ Your investments are in the correct name
✅ Your tax slips are valid and match what’s on file with the CRA
✅ There’s no confusion when processing wire transfers or withdrawals

Can I change it?

Nope – not manually. Once you complete ID verification, your legal name is locked in and cannot be edited from your profile settings.

If you legally change your name and need your records updated, reach out to our support team at support@addyinvest.com and we’ll walk you through the steps. We may ask for additional documents to verify the change.

What if my name doesn’t match?

If the name on your ID doesn’t match what you originally entered when signing up, don’t worry. We’ll update it for you as soon as your verification is complete.

If you spot a typo or something doesn’t look right, just reach out. We’re here to help.

TL;DR

  • Your legal name is pulled from your ID during verification.

  • That name updates your profile automatically.

  • It’s used for all official documents, agreements, and tax slips.

  • You can’t change it yourself — but we can help if you’ve legally changed your name.
