# What is a Parcel Identifier (PID) or Property Identification Number (PIN)?

## This identifier is used in land registration systems to uniquely identify and track properties. Each province and territory may have a separate term for this type of unique identifier system.

The PID/PIN typically includes information about the geographic location, size, and ownership of the property, and it is used in real estate transactions, property assessments, and legal documentation.

Common unique identifiers for each province and territory:

- **British Columbia**: Uses Parcel Identifier (PID), a unique 9-digit number.
- **Alberta**: Uses Land Identification Numeric Code (LINC), a unique 10-digit number.
- **Saskatchewan**: Uses Parcel Number, a unique identifier for land parcels.
- **Manitoba**: Uses Parcel Identification Numbers (PINs).
- **Ontario**: Uses Property Identifier Number (PIN), a unique identifier for parcels of land.
- **Quebec**: Uses Cadastre Number, a unique identifier in the Quebec Cadastre system.
- **New Brunswick**: Uses Property Account Number (PAN) and Parcel Identifier (PID).
- **Nova Scotia**: Uses Parcel Identification Number (PID).
- **Prince Edward Island**: Uses Property Number (PID).
- **Newfoundland and Labrador**: Uses unique identifiers within their land registration system.
- **Yukon**: Uses unique identifiers within their land registration system.
- **Northwest Territories**: Uses unique identifiers within their land registration system.
- **Nunavut**: Uses unique identifiers within their land registration system.
